What’s the Difference Between Ultra Clear and Clear Glass?
Both clear glass and ultra clear glass are toughened safety glass, but the key difference is in their appearance.
Standard clear glass contains a small amount of iron, which gives it a very slight green tint. This is most noticeable along the edges or on thicker panels, but in everyday use it’s rarely obvious. It’s strong, safe, and perfectly suited to most bathrooms.
Ultra clear glass (sometimes called low-iron glass) has the iron content reduced, so the greenish tint is removed. The result is glass that looks brighter and more neutral, allowing the true colour of your tiles or walls to show through.
In a bathroom setting, ultra clear is often chosen if you’ve invested in pale tiles, marble, or a high-end finish and want everything to look as crisp and accurate as possible. That said, in most bathrooms the difference is subtle — once you add steam, lighting and day-to-day use, standard clear glass usually looks just as good.
In short: ultra clear gives the cleanest, most premium look, but standard clear is excellent value and more than suitable for most homes.
